Create It Yourself Feature: Spring Projects

Create It Yourself Spring Projects cover image with bows and flowers background pattern

From pretty blooms to little birds, spring is all about new life, fresh starts, and more light… and we’re definitely here for it! So, as we head towards the start of spring, we’re taking inspiration from the season for this month’s Create It Yourself Feature. We have carefully selected four Spring Projects for you to enjoy, all created by wonderful creative women with small businesses here in the UK…

As one of the first signs that spring is on the way, we couldn’t not feature daffodils in our Spring Project selection… and, as daffodil projects go, these paper creations by Bee from Wild Hive (Instagram: @wildhivepaperflowers) are just gorgeous!

The paper daffodil kit comes with specialist paper, a step-by-step photo instruction booklet, a flower template, floral tape and wire, and glue-gun sticks. According to Bee, the only extra things you’ll need are a sharp pair of scissors, a glue gun (you can buy one from her site if you don’t already have one), and your favourite cup of tea!

Baby birds needle felting kit by Bergin & Bath

Nothing quite says spring like the sound of birds singing on a beautifully fresh, sunny day – as they hurriedly make nests, fetch food, and look after their new babies. And with this needle felting kit by Katie and Rach from Bergin & Bath (Instagram: @weareberginandbath), you can create your own cute baby birds.

Using the step-by-step photographic instructions and a needle-felting basics guide, you can have fun creating your own baby-bird designs with the eleven different colours of soft merino wool fibres included in the kit.

Using the special paper-crafting technique of iris folding, this PDF tulip pattern template by Bethan from Pretty in Paper by B (Instagram: @prettyinpaperbyb) is a lovely way to create some spring inspired cards for friends and family – or a seasonal piece of art for yourself.

The pattern template includes full instructions, and you can even purchase the tulip-aperture cards separately if you don’t want the hassle of cutting out your own.

We love that once you’ve got the hang of iris-folding, Bethan has so many different templates and designs you can enjoy. Including other spring projects like butterflies and bees.

"Floral Bike" embroidery kit by Thimble & Fabric

There’s something so romantic about the idea of cycling around in spring; with the lighter days, a gentle breeze in your hair, and flowers all around you… the idea is bliss, right?

Well, we live in the UK, so unfortunately it’s not always such a pretty experience (cue rain clouds, pot holes, and someone angrily shouting at you from a van!). But, with this gorgeous “Floral Bike” embroidery kit by Jess from Thimble & Fabric (Instagram: @thimbleandfabric) you can forget all of that stress, and just enjoy the romantic idea as you stitch away.

The kit includes: an illustrated instruction guide, the design printed onto cotton fabric, a wooden embroidery hoop, cotton embroidery threads, and an embroidery needle. The only other thing you’ll need is a pair of sharp scissors (but Jess has you covered for those as well, if needed).

We hope our selection of Spring Projects has got you excited for some creativity in the coming months. Whether you’re a paper-crafter, needleworker, or all-round creative, there’s hopefully a project to inspire your makes this Spring. And, if you haven’t tried one or more of these crafts before, why not set yourself the challenge to learn something new this season.
