Here at FCS, we really believe that creativity is important for your mental health and wellbeing (even our tagline is ‘for the wellbeing of creatives’). It doesn’t matter what creative project or craft you do, or what time of year it is… it can help. But, ahead of mental health awareness week (12th – 18th May 2025), this month’s Create It Yourself Feature is going one step further in focusing on creativity for your wellbeing, by sharing four positive, uplifting, and encouraging, affirmation projects you can make yourself. And, as always, each one is designed by a wonderful creative woman with a small business here in the UK.

In an ideal world everything would be wonderful all of the time, and it would be easy to always be upbeat and positive. But the world isn’t ideal, and sometimes life feels difficult.

This PDF paper cutting template by Silvina from My Papercut Forest (@mypapercutforest) is a great reminder that “it’s okay not to be okay”.

"Do More Of What Makes You Happy" mini embroidery kit by Make & Mend

This mini embroidery kit by Rachel and Lyndsey from Make & Mend (Instagram: @makeandmendco) might be simple, but we couldn’t agree more with the sentiment. You should absolutely “do more of what makes you happy”!

The kit includes everything you need, and is suitable for beginners or anyone who wants a quick and uplifting project.

There we go, four affirmation projects to uplift you when you need it.

For Creatives’ Sake is all about supporting, celebrating, and encouraging creative women in the UK. Whether you enjoy a creative hobby, use your creativity for a side-hustle, or work full-time in your creative small business, this space is for you. We need to empower and inspire each other to keep creating!

And, with mental health awareness week coming soon, it’s a good reminder that being creative is a great way to help look after your wellbeing… but if things get really tough – please know there are lots of people and organisations out there who can (and want to) help.
