It’s that time in January – a little too far past all the Christmas and New Year celebrations but not yet close enough to the joys of spring – when everything feels a bit… meh! But never fear, for our first Create It Yourself feature of the year (welcome back!), we’ve selected five colourful crafts for you to try, to brighten even the greyest of days. And the best bit? As always, they’re all designed by amazing creative women with small businesses here in the UK…
Fancy trying something a bit different to your average embroidery kit?

The weekly shop, paying for parking, picking up a prescription… not the most fun tasks for an already gloomy month. But reaching for your purse doesn’t have to be dull with this leather purse painting kit by Amber from Willow Leather (Instagram: @willow.leather).

As far as fun and colourful crafts go, marble printing is pretty high up on the list. And with this marbling art kit by Silvina from My Papercut Forest (Instagram: @mypapercutforest) – you can enjoy creating all kinds of fun and unique designs.

What better way to add some colour and joy to your January than by wearing it!
This jumper knitting kit by Lauren from Lauren Aston Designs (Instagram: @laurenastondesignsstudio), includes your choice of yarn colour for the main part of the jumper, and then 100g of remnant yarns to create a bespoke mismatch of colours and stripe thicknesses on the sleeve.
It’s an intermediate kit (so it might not be the best project choice if you’ve never picked up knitting needles before)… but it would be worth learning to knit, just so you can make this jumper in the future!
