Spring has sprung, the clocks have move forwards, and with the lighter evenings, it’s a great time to start a new creative project. Here are six ideas for a creative April…
6 ideas for a creative April
1. Make a spring wreath. A seasonal wreath is one of the prettiest ways to make sure you’ll have a smile on your face each time you see your front door. It doesn’t have to be anything too elaborate, in fact simpler is often better. Just grab a wreath base, and some flowers (faux, dried, or fresh) and have fun creating.
2. Paint some eggs. With Easter this month, not only can you embrace the joys of spring, you can go one step further with your seasonal creativity and make some painted Easter eggs. Wooden, ceramic, or even chocolate… grab whatever eggs you like and start painting (just obviously use food-safe paints for anything edible!).
3. Do some outdoor sketching or photography. Fingers crossed there wont be too many April showers, and spring will be well and truly springing. That way it will hopefully be warm enough to find a quiet spot outside to enjoy a bit of scenic sketching or photography. Try to capture the things that bring you joy in spring. Flowers, sunshine, blossom on the trees, baby animals – whatever makes you smile.
4. Create your own stamps for fabric. Using rubber blocks, lino (if you’re more confident in carving), or potatoes (for a really cheap and simple alternative), make your own spring-inspired stamps. Then use some fabric paint to stamp anything you like from tote bags to picnic napkins.
5. Make upcycled tin-can vases. Instead of throwing your used tin-cans in the recycling, why not upcycle them into cute vases? Use decoupage paper, or even the top layer of a pretty paper-serviette, to decorate your can, and then coat it with a clear waterproof-sealant to protect it.
6. Decorate your wellies. Got an old or tired pair of wellington boots (aka rain boots or wellies)? Give them a new lease of life for spring walks by painting them. Make sure you use the right kind of paint (a multi-surface acrylic, suitable for rubber and outdoor use, should be good), and you might need to use a waterproof sealer afterwards. Paint little flowers or maybe some stripes… whatever you fancy.
With the fresh ‘new beginnings’ feel of spring, we could have kept going with more creative suggestions, but it can start to feel a bit overwhelming when you’ve got too many exciting projects you want to try. So, hopefully these six ideas will be just enough to spark your imagination for a more creative April.
