If you’ve ever tried watercolour painting on your own and it’s not gone to plan, don’t worry. It’s one of the techniques that does need a bit of guidance if you’re just starting out. But lucky for you, that’s where Harriet from de Winton Paper Co. comes in (Instagram: @dewintonpaperco).

Renowned for her watercolour painting skills, Harriet has numerous resources to help you learn and practice. We particualry love the idea of her membership because not only do you get Harriet’s expert tuition, you also become part of a community. And what could be better than building confidence in an art technique whilst being supported by others.

The membership has three different tiers to choose from, offering different levels of interaction.

Bird of paradise batik kit by Ying Modern Batik

Batik is the ancient art technique of using wax and dye to decorate fabric. It creates stunning and colourful designs with a trademark Batik outline (created from the wax).

Ying from Ying Modern Batik (Instagram: @batikying) has created a range of Batik kits, all with contemporary designs and including everything you need to get started – from pre-waxed fabric to a colour mixing guide.

The bird of paradise kit is our particular favourite, with it’s joyful colour palette.

Lino printing kit by Love To Print

Lino printing is a fun and different art technique where you carve your design into a block of lino, apply ink, and then transfer your design. It’s a form of relief printmaking that dates back to the early 1900s.

Having taught art and photography for over 18 years, alongside being an artist herself, Kate Watkins (Instagram: @katewatkinsart) started ‘Love to Print’ in order to combine her two passions: printmaking and teaching.

The lino printing kit comes with everything you need, including different types of lino blocks to experiment with and a helpful step-by-step video tutorial.

"Orange Market" gouache painting kit by Paige's Illustrations

Paige from Paige’s Illustrations (Instagram: @paigesillustrations) started her business in 2020, during the first lockdown, and has since created a large collection of gouache painting kits.

With its unique and quite forgiving opaque texture, gouache painting is a great art technique to try if you’re a beginner. And with Paige’s helpful instructions and pre-printed sketches, her kits can have you painting gorgeous pieces of art in no time.

We’ve chosen her beautiful, summery “Orange Market” kit because… well, just look at it!
