We’re a little late sharing our Monthly Motivation this month because… well… does anyone else find August a bit of a strange time warp? We can’t tell if we’re coming or going, let alone what date it is! Anyway, better late than never, here are our 4 ideas for a creative August…
4 ideas for a creative August
1. Create a summer scrapbook. If you’re embracing the summer, going on adventures, spending time with friends and family, and making memories – why not ensure you’ll never forget those joyful times by creating a summer scrapbook or journal. Don’t just keep photos on your phone, print some out. Decorate the cover and the pages inside. Write down stories and little anecdotes from the season. Make the most of even the smallest things that made you smile. Scrapbooking isn’t just for kids – it can be a wonderful way to keep happy memories alive.
2. Decorate a tote bag. Whether you’re going to the beach, running errands around town, or meeting up with friends, a tote bag is always useful. But forget boring, off-the-shelf designs… get creative and decorate your own. Use fabric paints, scraps of fabric, beads, embroidery (or glue if you prefer). You can be as fun or as stylish as you like.
3. Make fruit and herb ice lollies. Want a grown-up cold treat to share with guests (or just for yourself!)? Make some fruit and herb ice lollies for something a little different. Blend up your favourite fruits with a complementary fresh herb, then freeze in moulds. Couldn’t be simpler. Berries go well with mint or basil. Apples and pears work with rosemary or thyme. Bananas and mangoes taste nice with coriander (apparently!… we haven’t tried the combination ourselves).
4. Make a sugar scrub. If the thought of wearing sandals makes you cringe because your feet aren’t looking their best, or if you’ve been spending lots of time barefoot and now your soles are somewhat grubby… make yourself a really easy but effective sugar scrub to get your feet feeling soft and looking beautiful in no time. Simply mix lots of sugar with some oil of your choice (coconut or olive work well) – you’re looking to create a wet sand consistency. Then scrub it all over your feet, exfoliating and moisturising in one, before rinsing off with water. You can add a little drop of essential oil if you want a nice smell and, providing you store it correctly (put it in an airtight container for a start) it should keep well for a few weeks if not months.
There we go, 4 ideas for a creative August (albeit a little late into the month). If your summer is looking overwhelmingly full, don’t put too much pressure on yourself to be creative… but, equally, if you could do with a little moment of creative ‘me time’, we hope these ideas give you some inspiration.
